Mumbai Traffic Police Imposes Odd–Even Parking System Across MIDC And Sakinaka to Decongest Key Roads
Mumbai Traffic Police has implemented temporary odd–even parking rules across MIDC Andheri East and Sakinaka from May to August to reduce congestion, improve emergency access, and regulate roadside parking on key industrial roads. The directive enforces alternate-side parking on odd and even dates.
The order has been implemented in response to persistent traffic bottlenecks caused by heavy two-sided roadside parking on narrow industrial and commercial roads within the MIDC Traffic Division, which has also been hampering the passage of emergency vehicles.
The regulation covers seven major roads in the MIDC area, including Guru Gobind Singh Road from Shere Punjab Road to Tolani College, Kondavita Road from Apna Dhaba to Pidilite Company, Datta Jagdamba Mandir Road from Hanuman Mandir to Malpa Dongri Road, Central Road from Rolta Junction to Sanvidhan Chowk, B Cross Road from Road Number 7 to Aakriti Road near Star Building, Suren Road from L&T Company to TCS Company, and Road Number 11 from Central Road MIDC to Mahakali Cave Road.
Under the new system, vehicles may park only on the northern side of the road on even dates of the month as per the Gregorian calendar. On odd dates, parking will be permitted exclusively on the southern side. Any violation of this alternating arrangement will be treated as an offence under traffic regulations.
Traffic authorities have urged motorists to strictly comply with the revised parking discipline to prevent penalties and ensure smoother vehicular movement. Officials have stated that the initiative is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in one of Mumbai’s busiest industrial and commercial hubs. The arrangement has been introduced as a temporary measure for a duration of three months, after which it will be reviewed based on its effectiveness.
In a parallel measure to address similar congestion issues, the Mumbai Traffic Police has also enforced temporary odd–even parking restrictions in the Sakinaka Traffic Division. The regulation, effective from May 20 to August 19, aims to streamline traffic and facilitate the unhindered movement of emergency and essential service vehicles.
The affected roads in Sakinaka include Main Street Road from Galleria Circle to Swami Narayan Circle, High Street Road from D Mart Circle to Heritage Building, Forest Street Road from Orchid Avenue to Eden Garden Junction, and Saki Vihar Road from the Public Works Department Office road leading toward Westin Hotel up to Ambedkar Udyan.
These measures collectively reflect a broader enforcement push by the traffic administration to regulate roadside parking in densely congested urban corridors, ensuring safer, faster, and more disciplined traffic movement across Mumbai’s industrial belts.
